Barre is a full-body workout technique inspired by elements of ballet, yoga, Pilates and strength conditioning.  Using isometric training that burns fat and improves cardio and fitness, it provides a challenging strength and endurance workout for anyone regardless of level or experience.

Balance, strength, stamina, power, flexibility and motor control all improve.

It tones the thighs and calves, strengthens the core and glutes and sculpts the arms whilst protecting the joints – the perfect way to build muscle while increasing your flexibility and mobility with no need for prior dance experience.

A bit about
Erin

When not at the barre, Erin can be found performing in the concert hall.  Having relocated to the UK from Toronto, Canada, she brings her wealth of experience as a professional french horn player and singer to her teaching.     

Early on in her career with the Toronto Symphony she experienced back issues and found the practice of Barre not only fixed the problem but prevented it.  Soon after, she trained with a former dancer and became an instructor. 

Fast forward to 2024, 3 kids later, and barre was again her go-to, this time for post natal recovery.  After training in BarreConcept with the fitness guru and Pilates master Emma Newham, Erin founded Barre by Barre in Ashbourne, near the Peak District, to create a supportive and empowering studio environment fostering inner strength and confidence in both body, mind and spirit.   

A natural coach, her ease with people creates a relaxed and inviting tone. She brings her passion and creativity to the barre and while a precise and an informed instructor, she’s always a bit cheeky – like working out with your friend who happens to be a professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels and modifications are provided to allow beginners to progress at their own pace.  With a half hour private intro before joining a class, Erin will familiarise you with the basic principles to create a solid foundation you can confidently build upon over time. 

A Barre workout is suitable for all ages and differing abilities as various adaptations are given throughout the class. Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and listen to their body.  No ballet or prior dance experience is necessary. 

 
  • Yoga or Pilates attire – leggings and a well fitting top are ideal workout clothing so that your instructor can see your alignment and posture throughout the class
  • Socks with grip or bare feet – the legs and feet are kept covered in order for the body to retain heat, which helps assist our muscles to perform stretches during the flexibility training on the barre.

Barre exercises require a certain amount of stamina. Improved cardio fitness health and increase in muscle tone will help to burn fat at a faster rate. Many clients become slimmer and lose inches within months.
